For any person who has suffered a stroke or suspected stroke living in the Bury area. There is an acute stroke unit based at Fairfield General Hospital. This comprises of 8 hyper-acute stroke beds which are supported by cardiac monitors. All patients admitted to the unit are monitored for up to 72 hours during the acute phase of care. Whilst on the unit patients are cared for by a team specialising in stroke including: Stroke nurses; Consultant physicians; Occupational Therapists; Physiotherapists; Speech and language therapists; Orthoptists and Dietitians. There are 10 stroke rehabilitation beds at Fairfield General Hospital for patients who need an extended period of hospital stay to rehabilitate and improve function. Dial 999 if you suspect a stroke.
