New weight loss support on the high street

People struggling to lose weight will now be offered help from their local high street pharmacy as part of the NHS’s radical action to tackle rising obesity levels and type 2 diabetes.

Community pharmacy teams can now refer adults living with obesity, and other conditions, to the twelve-week online NHS weight management programme.

Pregnant women urged to get vaccines and boosters

Mums-to-be are being advised to get two vaccinations and a booster to protect themselves from the increased risk of serious consequences from coronavirus (Covid-19).

Nationally and in Bury, the main priority is to increase the number of pregnant women getting two jabs (8 weeks apart) and encourage those who have done to go for a Covid-19 booster three months or more after their second dose.

To book at a local vaccine clinic visit the COVID booking system to avoid waiting in a queue and guarantee a specific appointment time.

Additional Restrictions Grant Omicron Support

Additional funding has been made available by the government to support businesses impacted by the Omicron COVID-19 variant and the associated Plan-B measures. Bury has received £338,093 out of a national £102m fund for Omicron support through the Additional Restrictions Grant Fund (ARG).

For many people, winter can be a difficult time, with cold and shorter days, colds, bugs and seasonal flu that begin to circulate and the added issue of the Coronavirus to deal with too!

Parklife Community Fund

Community groups in Prestwich are invited to bid for a share of £27,000 brought in from the 2021 Parklife festival in Heaton Park.

The annual concert raises money for a Community Fund which is distributed to local organisations in Bury, Rochdale and Manchester boroughs which are based nearest the park.

Priority is given to groups and projects that benefit parks and open spaces and young people.

Applications from groups based in Prestwich (Sedgley, Holyrood and St Mary’s wards) open on 4 January and close on 28 January. The maximum grant available to one organisation is £2,000.

Fishpool and Pimhole Active Travel Scheme Survey

Bury Council are working with Transport for Greater Manchester to improve access to and through the Fishpool and Pimhole areas.

They want to encourage more active and environmentally friendly travel for short journeys and to make Fishpool and Pimhole safer and better places for families to live.

Between 11 January and 8 February 2022, they want the local community to put forward their views on the proposed designs to improve access within the Fishpool and Pimhole neighbourhoods.
