The Sunnywood Project

The Sunnywood Project is a non-profit, social enterprise. Proceeds from our events help fund our Youth Provision and use the outdoors to enrich lives across Bury and Greater Manchester.

Can you offer a little of your time to help make a positive difference within the community? The Sunnywood Project is seeking interest from individuals who are enthusiastic about our work and are willing to offer some time to help us use the outdoors to enrich lives across Bury and Greater Manchester. Excitingly, we are soon to open the new Sunnywood Hub in the Burrs Country Park which will allow us to expand our current services and provision.

We therefore have the following Volunteer opportunities available: Sunnywood Community Hub Assistant Family Activity Assistant Youth Programme Activity Assistant Run Leader / Facilitator Hike Leader / Facilitator Burrs Community Run marshal

Volunteers will receive a thorough training package and various incentives. Interested in joining the team? We are a group of volunteers who care about Bury. We care about the environment, wildlife and helping to keep our streets and parks free of litter. We often work with Bury’s schools and business groups.

We can supply you with litter picking equipment to go out as and when you like, we just ask that you ‘Adopt your Street’, and you can also join us on our regular group picks on the third weekend of the month, alternate Saturdays, and Sundays. Incredible Edible Prestwich and District

Incredible Edible – Prestwich & District (iepad.co.uk) started in 2010 and has 9 sites growing fruit, vegetables, and herbs. We have approx. 30 members and 60 volunteers. Our aim is to promote local food growing with members of the community. Our sites range across Prestwich, Radcliffe, Whitefield and Sedgley Park. This includes 2 forest gardens, numerous vegetable beds, an orchard, and an allotment. They’re all tended by volunteers and new help is always welcome.

The food we grow is free to pick, and we also sell food, honey, and herbs at local events. We also hold 2 large annual events at Philips Park, with Apple Day in October and Wassailing in January.

It's all fun and very fulfilling! To get involved at any site or for more information, please email: iepad.volunteers@gmail.com

Bolton and Bury Swifts

Saving Swifts & House Martins! Magical migratory birds that can be seen May-Sep around the town. We survey colonies, put Swift records on RSPB Swift Mapper app. Ask the Council & Developers to put Swift Bricks in new builds. Work with Bury Housing/Bolton at Home to protect & enhance nest sites on their housing. Rehab grounded birds and Swallows too. Talks to schools/youth groups. We host a Swift Watching Evening during Swift Awareness Week each year in Bradshaw, Bolton.

Want to learn how to identify and survey for these birds?

We offer a free training session then encourage independent surveying wherever you are, to help plot nest sites. Regular updates on Facebook & Twitter or join as a free member- email boltonandburyswifts@outlook.com
