The Friends of Burrs group is a collection of local residents and park users who are passionate about Burrs Country Park. The Friends group was set up to take over the Community Management of the park, as funding from Bury Council is gradually phased out. We have won funding from several sources including the Heritage Lottery Fund and Tesco Bags to Help in order to improve and develop the park for the future.

The Friends group have bi-monthly meetings to discuss issues in the park and hear the views of local residents and park users. There are also meetings with Bury Council representatives to take matters arising up to the relevant departments.

We have representation on the Burrs Strategic Planning group and the Heritage Lottery grant committee to keep track of the move to Community Management of Burrs.

The group supports local businesses and takes part in the events held at Burrs.

The Friends group organise regular litter picks around the park to keep it looking beautiful. During the summer season the Friends group also organise Balsam Bashes to try to keep this invasive weed in check. These can be a big tasks as we have water courses within the park that makes some of the litter collection and balsam uprooting difficult to do.

We have our own rock painting group, called Burrs Stones, to spread the word about our beautiful park. Burrs Books is part of Bury Book Buddies and we hide childrens' books around the park. Families visiting Burrs can enjoy the excitement of finding Burrs Stones and Burrs Books, and hopefully will re-hide them for others to enjoy finding them.

The Friends of Burrs Gardening Club help maintain and improve areas which have been neglected due to the limited budget for parks. The group work on tasks such as tidying beds, replanting, trimming back footpaths, weeding, working on the sensory beds and the new incredible edible areas. The Garden group meet on Tuesday afternoons and have task days throughout the year.

Friends of Burrs is always looking for more volunteers to get involved with the park, both in it's physical management and for organising events and fund raising activities.

If you are interested in getting involved in any aspect of the park or would simply like to know what's going on in terms of progress, physical improvements and community involvment opportunities, please email us on friendsofburrscountrypark@gmail.com or visit our Friends of Burrs Country Park website https://sites.google.com/view/friendsofburrscountrypark/home?authuser=0
