Friends of Gardner Mount is a group of likeminded residents working together to keep the area clean and in use for the local community.

Gardner Mount is situated at the end of Gardner Road in Prestwich and back onto Prestwich Clough.

Gardner Mount was for many years known as ‘Spion Kop’ which simply means 'look-out' or 'spy hill' and comes from a battle location in the Boer War. A war memorial was placed on the Mount around 1923 and then sadly relocated to outside what is now PADOS Drama Group in the 1960s because of vandalism. The memorial is just a simple wooden cross so wouldn't have been very robust for the exposed / isolated location on the Mount if anyone was intent on damage. Local residents recall a time when you had open views for many miles across Manchester whilst stood on the Mount some 30/40 years ago. Gardner Mount today has almost total tree cover, much of it from self-seeded Oak and Ash trees that now surround the area.
