Applying for a school place for children with Special Educational Needs

All children have different learning styles and schools take account of this through inclusive Quality First Teaching. However, some children have a learning difficulty or a disability that means they have a significantly greater difficulty learning than the majority of other children. These children may have special educational needs (SEN).

Many children and young people will have special educational needs of some kind during their educational career. Early years providers, schools and colleges help most children and young people overcome any barriers to learning by making reasonable adjustments or by organising additional support. For a small number of children, a significant level of extra support may be needed for some or all of their time in education. This can be provided by the school, with additional funding from the Local Authority (LA) or with the support of an Education Health and Care (EHC) plan.

The process for applying for a school place for children and young people in possession of an EHC plan is managed by the EHC Assessment and Review Team.
