Supporting with secondary prevention falls from the Technology Enabled Care (TEC) side, the TEC Realisation Lead will share and promote information about technology and how it can be used to combat falls prevention.
Exploring the procurement of GPS falls detection wearables/watches. With correct programming, the devices will be able to put a call into the Bury's lift service if a fall occurs outside of the home.
Seeking opportunities to source other devices aimed at preventing long lie falls:
Infrared sensors suitable for supported living, reablement, IMC, residential etc.
Falls sensors within properties, detecting movement and falls.
Virtual falls sensor - This is our most recent addition and was only released 2 months ago. It is essentially an algorithm created which triggers an alert after a given period of time if a resident hasn’t triggered certain sensors in a household such as their bed, their favourite chair, the front door etc. If none of these common sensors have been triggered within a certain time period, an alarm will be raised as there would be a high probability that resident has taken a fall. We can also be specific as to which room that fall will have taken place in.
Finally, there is a company called 2iC, that uses a device called Andi to help predict patterns in behavior to predict falls/ill health. As with the Vayyar sensor at the top, drops in movement, or increased bathroom trips can indicate a potential fall or UTI, respectively. They have claimed before they have prevented a fall around 8-10 weeks before it may have happened through intervention when a service user demonstrated decreased mobility.
