Incredible Edible Prestwich and District
Incredible Edible – Prestwich & District (iepad.co.uk) started in 2010 and has 9 sites growing fruit, vegetables, and herbs. We have approx. 30 members and 60 volunteers. Our aim is to promote local food growing with members of the community. Our sites range across Prestwich, Radcliffe, Whitefield and Sedgley Park. This includes 2 forest gardens, numerous vegetable beds, an orchard, and an allotment. They’re all tended by volunteers and new help is always welcome. The food we grow is free to pick, and we also sell food, honey, and herbs at local events. We also hold 2 large annual events at Philips Park, with Apple Day in October and Wassailing in January.

We currently run nature and wellbeing session at two sites in Prestwich – Philips Park and Highfield Road Allotments. Both sessions take place on a Friday.
If someone is interested in learning more about and take positive action for nature, meet new people, make new friends, and improve their wellbeing, this group is for them. Our nature-based activities are seasonal and responsive to the group’s interests, however, they broadly fit into 5 main themes: Bush craft, plant growing, being mindful, nature walks and practical conservation.

Whitefield and Radcliffe Environmental Forum
Do you feel concerned about Climate Change? Have you ever wondered if there’s anything you can do to help tackle it?
A group of concerned Whitefield residents believe that working together we can begin to make effective changes in our hometown and in our own lives.
The Whitefield Environmental Forum was launched in March 2022 with an inaugural tree planting in Philips Park. In partnership with City of Trees and support from Bury Council we embarked on a yearlong campaign to increase biodiversity across Whitefield. We planted over 1600 trees to capture carbon, and worked with schools to plant wildflowers, helping embattled wildlife along the way.
In 2023 / 24 we are continuing to work with other community groups to help Bury Council achieve its challenging targets for carbon neutrality as set out in its Climate Action Plan. To join us, sign up here today, or drop us an e-mail at whitefieldef@gmail.com
Practical Conservation Volunteering at Philips Park
Lancs Wildlife Trust are looking for volunteers to join their weekly practical group to help carry out hands-on habitat management and seasonal surveys. With a regular volunteering session meeting every Tuesday at the barn, Philips Park 10am – 2.30pm. Activities are seasonal but cover a variety of conservation tasks, woodland management, and invasive species control.
LWT provide the tools, training and personal protective equipment for the tasks and just ask that you bring a packed lunch, wear sturdy footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. No previous experience is needed just a reasonable level of physical fitness and an eagerness to get stuck in whatever the weather!
If you are interested in joining our friendly team of volunteers please contact Rory Andrews, Greater Manchester Reserve Officer, at randrews@lancswt.org.uk for more information.
