An Age-friendly Community is a place that enables people to age well and live a good later life. Somewhere that people can stay living in their homes, participate in the activities they value, and contribute to their communities, for as long as possible. The UK Network of Age-friendly Communities is a growing movement, with over 75 places across the country committed to making their community a better place to age in. 

The UK Network is part of a global movement led by the World Health Organisation (WHO), dedicated to promoting healthy and active aging, ensuring that older adults can live in environments that support their well-being and participation in society.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing expressed enthusiasm about this accomplishment, stating, "We are thrilled to be accepted into the WHO Age-Friendly Network. This partnership aligns perfectly with our vision of creating a community where people of all ages can live fulfilling lives. We look forward to working with the network to implement innovative solutions and make Bury a truly age-friendly place."
