This page is part of the Speech and Language Therapy - Paediatric Community Services information.

What do Emily Blunt, Ed Sheeran, Joe Biden, Bruce Willis and Marylin Monroe have in common? Well apart from being hugely famous and successful they also have/had a stammer. We know that around 8% of children will start to stammer at some point. For some this can start very gradually and for others it can start suddenly. You might notice your child repeats sounds or words, they may stretch out sounds or the sounds may get blocked completely. If this is something that is causing you or your child any concern it is best to get things checked out. We absolutely know that Parents do not cause stammering and you are in the best position to help your child with their talking.
