Cool Spaces Bury

Cool Spaces Bury

Your guide to cool community spaces in and around the Bury borough.

Hot weather can be dangerous, especially for older people, young children, and those with health problems. Combined with air pollution, it can also worsen breathing problems or heart conditions.

Our constant cool spaces network operating during the summer offers support to people if they need to keep hydrated or seek shelter from the sun.

Cool spaces are indoor venues that help reduce health risks during hot weather.

They are not meant to provide medical care or support to vulnerable people.

Instead, they offer:

  • shelter from the sun,
  • free water,
  • a place to cool down and;
  • resting areas.

Why become a Cool Space?

  • Cool Spaces offer a vital lifeline to residents during extreme weather
  • Welcome new faces
  • Increase your visibility and welcome new people through your doors who may become regular visitors
  • Your venue will be promoted on The Bury Directory online listings and on the Warm Welcome website- https://www.warmwelcome.uk/?tags=cool%20space

Participating outlets are given a guide about how to make their premises more age friendly. They are invited to display the Age Friendly ‘flower’ logo on the their window.

If you see the logo you will know there is a chair available inside, a cool space, so that you can sit and rest. You may be offered a glass of water and, if accessible, be allowed to use the toilet facilities.
