About this service

Our Centre is oepn five days a week. We operate a Drop In on a Monday and Wednesday mornign 10am-12pm. Tuesday is operating appointment only sessions, with a Drop In on Monday and Wednesday morning 10am-12pm and Tuesday afternoon 1pm-3pm. Our staff team are available in the Centre and can be contacted via e mail or telephone to offer support and advice for people living with sight loss. Our staff will provide direct support or signpost you to the most appropriate service to assist with the additional challenges facing you in the current environment. 

Based five minutes walk from Bury Bus and Tram station, the offices are open from 10am-4pm, Monday-Friday.

A full, on-going rehabilitation support service is available for anyone who has a Visual Impairment, registered or non-registered. We operate a comprehensive Resource Centre with equipment to 'try before you buy'. 

Services available from our Early Intervention team include, home Assessment to review support and services, mobility training, daily living skills plus our Eye Talk Support programme for newly diagnosed. We offer a wide selection of Support groups eg. Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Retinitus Pigmentosa support.  Other services include Visual Impairment Awareness Training, Sighted Guiding techniques, Financial and Benefit support and Information and variety of social activities. 

We also have a Hospital Information Service based at Fairfield Hospital Eye Clinic.

Regular Bury Blind Society events and activities are as follows:.

Daily: Monday's & Wednesday's 10am-12pm, Tuesdays, Centre only open for appointments only and private room hre.

Weekly:

Monday: 10..30am-12.00pm, Monday Makes Group (MEGs)

Monday: 1.30pm-2.30pm, informal music afternoon. apart from Week 4 - see below.

Thursday:10.30am-12pm - Healthy Living Group

Thursday:1.30pm-3pm, Afternoon Tea & CHAT., week 1 Bingo, week 2, Quiz, Week 3, Silent Auction, Week 4: CHAT and Clothes sale. Week 5 - Speakers arranged.

Friday: 11.30-2.00pm, Lunch club. Alternate weeks: Soup & Sandwich, or 2 course cooked meal.

Monthly:

3rd Monday: 10am-2.00pm 'Fit Feet' Clinic' - qualified foot practioner - open to all. Appointments only.

4th Monday: 1.30pm-3pm Musical Entertainment Afternoon

2nd Wednesday: 'CHAT & Craft' Workshop

4th Wednesday: Wellbeing Clinic - Head & Neck massage, Reiki, aromotherapy. - open to all. Apppoiintments only.

Support Clinics and Groups:

Weekly, Wedensdays 9.30am-3.30pm: Community Eye Service - Low Vision Aid Clinic - by referral

Fortnightly: Fridays 9.30am-3.30pm: Digital Support Clinic - Henshaws - by referral.

2nd Wednesday: Macular Degeneration Group. 1.30pm

4th Wednesday, Glaucoma Group. 1.30pm

Notes

The service open to any adult residenliving in Bury with a non-corrective eye conditions.

Referrals can be made via telephone, via email or visit to the Society.

People can self refer, other organisations or family members can refer with customer's permission.
