Special care dentistry services for adults with additional needs in Greater Manchester

About this service

Special care dentistry services for adults with additional needs in Greater Manchester – how do you make a referral?

All adult referrals to the Community Dental Services sent by non-dental professionals will now follow a new pathway.

Non-dental professionals can make a direct request for an adult (19+ years) with additional needs to be assessed for routine dental care in the Community Special Care Dental Services (CSCDS). Access to the referral platform is password-protected.

All adult referrals to our service will be rejected unless they are sent on a new Special Care Referral Form.

Here is the link and the password for the Special Care Referral form for non-dental professionals.

Please can we also remind referrers to check payment and exemption status before referring patients to our service. We cannot provide care to patients who cannot prove exemption or pay for their treatment.

Please inform the patient or Carer that NHS Charges apply and that they should bring to the first appointment proof of any exemptions and the patient or Carer will need to sign the NHS form to that effect. If this is not provided the patient will not be accepted for treatment or examination

For more information regarding referral please see downloadable documents.

Notes

Requests should only be made for an adult for a routine dental check-up when they are unable to accept dental services in a high street dentist. Only patients who are unable to be examined in a high street dental practice because of some physical, intellectual, medical, emotional, sensory, mental, social impairment, or a combination of these factors should be referred via this route.

Non-dental professionals can make a direct request for an adult (19+ years) with additional needs to be assessed for routine dental care in the Community Special Care Dental Services (CSCDS).
