Effective early information gathering and assessment

Effective early information gathering and assessment

With support from the SENCO, all staff need to take responsibility for understanding the strengths and needs of all the children and young people in their class. This is supported by effective information-sharing on transition, where previously successful strategies and approaches can be shared, and well-embedded systems through which staff can identify and monitor needs at the earliest opportunity.

All staff must be familiar with good practice recommendations, whole class strategies and assessment tools that can be used to identify children and young people's needs across different areas. Please visit the areas of need sections for further information. The different areas of need covered within this toolkit will support staff to identify general classroom-based strategies and assessment tools that can be used to support early planning, under the Assessment and Getting Advice sections.
