Gender Identity

Gender Identity

The question on gender identity was new for Census 2021.  It was a voluntary question only asked of those aged 16 years and over. The question asked “Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth?” with 3 answer options of Yes, No or to write in their gender identity.  94.4% of the population aged 16 years and over in Bury answered Yes, which is slightly higher than the 93.5% answering Yes in England and Wales.

The table below shows gender identity by MSOA in Bury.

Walshaw & Woolfold had the highest number of Yes answers at 96.5% with Sedgley Park the lowest at 89.3%.
