Connecting Community Food Enterprises Case Study: Radcliffe Community Hub
The Radcliffe Food Club operates as part of the Community Hub, following a pantry model. They open with two time slots on a Wednesday, in the morning and evening, welcoming around 53 members each week. Members pay a membership fee of £5 per year which includes an initial free shop of 12 items across the range.

Managing a Market as a Front-line Service and Community Asset
Bury Market, located in the north of Greater Manchester, first started operating in the 1400’s. Boasting over 350 stalls with an impressive 150,000 visitors per week, it is known as the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of Bury Town Centre.
Bury Market was recently awarded £20m of Government Levelling up funding to build a flexible events centre and replace and improve the Market canopy roof to enable modernisation without gentrification.

How Bury is putting money back into people’s pockets
Since the beginning of the local campaign to increase the uptake of Healthy Start, Bury has seen uptake increase by ten per cent, with more people eligible to the scheme now claiming and receiving the weekly payments. This might seem a modest increase but over the course of a year this equates to £16K back into peoples’ pockets at a time of great need, with some of it being spent locally at fruit and veg stalls in Bury Market.
