Inclusive Behaviour Policies

Inclusive Behaviour Policies

SENCOs in Bury emphasise the importance of an inclusive and differentiated behaviour policy that embeds reasonable adjustments for children and young people with SEND, which recognises all behaviour as a form of communication. When senior leaders in schools' analysis of attendance and exclusions data have a SEND focus, this effectively informs developments in the school and SEND provision.

Positive Behaviour Policy

A positive behaviour (or relational) policy needs to be embedded within a whole-setting culture and ethos where relationships and nurture are at the heart of the everyday practice. Guidance for settings around developing a positive, relationship-focused behaviour policy has been produced by Brighton and Hove Council and can be accessed here.

At St Joseph's RC Primary School, as part of the Parent Voice Group, parents, staff, governors and pupils were asked for feedback on the school's behaviour policy. This has become a regular process to involve the wider school community in contributing to the whole school approach, with parents and carers often offering their own skills to help create events or develop calm areas within the school.
