As children begin to talk their speech sounds develop gradually. You might notice your child will say "bish" instead of "fish" or they might say "bider" instead of "spider". It takes time for all their sounds to become clear and 'adult like'. Generally, we would expect children's speech to be mostly clear to everybody they talk to by the time they are 4 years old.

There are lots of things you can do to help your child if they have unclear speech. Take a look at the handouts for some more tips and advice
