Sensory - Getting More Help (KS3)

Carry out more detailed sensory assessments/audits in collaboration with outside agencies such as Occupational Therapy (OT) and implement appropriate modifications. Use of the sensory pre-referral advice for schools. Upload ‘OT pre-referral advice for schools – sensory’ file

 

From the sensory assessment checklist(s) devise a bespoke sensory diet and implement.

 

SENDCo and outside agencies to support the Key Person/Teaching Assistant to plan differentiated activities and strategies to support the young person.

 

 

Access to a sensory room or designated space. This can be particularly useful around transition points e.g. when entering school in the morning.

 

Use of targeted interventions such as How Does Your Engine Run? to promote the young person’s understanding of sensory-regulation.

 

Continue to liaise with any Health Professionals, as appropriate.

 

Ongoing monitoring and reviewing of specific strategies and advice given by professionals e.g. Occupational Therapists.

 

 

Sensory support can be accessed through Bury’s Sensory Pathway, delivered by Rehabilitation for Independence in partnership with First Point.  Sensory training workshops with a specialist Occupational Therapist (OT), to support an understanding of sensory needs and reasonable adjustments, are available for education/healthcare staff and for parents/carers – training dates and details about the Sensory Pathway can be found on the Rehabilitation for Independence website. A referral is required to access the parent/carer workshops.
