The group was established in 2002 to give BAME employees a platform to influence council policy by sharing ideas and experiences to make change happen.

The group meet 6 times each year, with meetings lasting a maximum of 2 hours. The main aim of the group is to work towards making sure race equality is positively included in the Council and Six Town Housing's policies and procedures, and to help with developing good working practices.

This group, together with the other equality employee groups, aims to ensure that the equality agenda is promoted and that all protected groups are treated fairly and offered equality of opportunity.

Over the years the group have had many achievements including:

  • Creating yearly multi faith calendars
  • Helping with the development of  the Councils multi faith rooms
  • Promoting events such as Black History Month
  • Fast for a Day challenge
  • Delivering awareness training to employees
