Global Alliance Against Female Genital Mutilation

Many organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO) have been fighting against the traditional practice of female genital mutilation of babies, young girls and women.

After more than three decades of efforts, the Key role of men has finally been brought into focus
Men are fathers, brothers, cousins and husbands-to-be of FGM victims. They are religious leaders, heads of villages, families and clans. They are opinion leaders and the guardians of traditions. They hold key positions in politics, law and economics. But when it comes to FGM and its eradication, they are rather reluctant.

Since 2009, conferences and events took place, focusing on men who said "NO" to Female Genital Mutilation. They are still a minority. It took them a lot of courage to be heard.

The Global Alliance against FGM's ambition is to accelerate the total elimination of traditional violence against women. Action must be taken hand in hand by men and women, along with all concerned organizations. There is a growing necessity to address global challenge through global action. For us a structure advocating for mutual support and strengthened grassroots work it is a priority to create a comprehensive platform and the first FGM portal.
