Pure Innovations in conjunction with the Bury School & College Transport Team (Bury Council) provide an independent travel training service for Young People with a variety of additional needs.

Travel Training, is a 1:1, risk assessed training program to teach young people independent travel and problem solving school. Each young person it taught entirely at their own pace and with an individual training plan.

The route is fully assessed and parental consent it sought at each stage. A young person will not complete any section of the journey on their own until they have consistently shown that they are able to travel safely.

Travel training takes place in real time when a young person would ordinarily travel to and from school.

To qualify for the service a young person need to be in receipt of an EHCP or Statement and be in receipt of, or be eligible for, home to school transport.

We have a team of Parent Ambassadors who are happy to talk with you around any concerns and explain why they're glad they supported their child to complete the travel training programme with Pure Innovations.

We also offer group sessions in school around safer travel.

Parent Packs are also available with initial support from the Pure Team to deliver travel training to their own child.

Independent travel training is all about supporting young people aged 11 to 24 on their journey towards greater independence.

A progressive programme, done in real-time, travel training has been shown to give people greater control in their lives, empowering them to make decisions and enabling them to take advantage of opportunities in their communities.

We provide a tailored package to enable young people to develop the skills to eventually be able to travel independently and safely on public transport.

Using risk-assessed structured and methodological training, they will have one-to-one intensive practice with a dedicated and qualified trainer doing journeys to and from school or college.

This is what some young people have said about the training:

  • “My confidence grows each day I’m travel training.”
  • “I was told I could never get on a bus on my own, the travel trainer showed me I could safely.”
  • “I can visit friends and family without my mum having to drive me.” Parents have said this:
  • “He is much more aware of his surroundings whilst out and about. This is a result of the travel training.”
  • “The increased independence has boosted his confidence no end.”

But don’t take our word for it. We have a team of Parent Ambassadors who are happy to share their experiences with you.

Feel free to ask for them to give you a call.
