The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of the Queen’s coronation. KAVS is an MBE for volunteer groups. Over the last 6 years, the work of the voluntary sector here in Bury has been recognised with 21 organisations across the Borough having been awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

In 2022 that success has been further added to with a further 5 groups receiving the award:

  • The Attic Project
  • BURY2GETHER
  • Rammymen
  • Corrie Gardeners
  • The Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force (Headquarters @ Holcombe Moor)

The winners received their awards in August 2022 at a ceremony at Gorton Monastery.

Nominate organisations for 2023

Any group doing volunteer work that provides a social, economic or environmental service to the local community can be nominated for the award. Each group is assessed on the benefit it brings to the local community and its standing within that community.

Winners get a certificate signed by the Queen and a domed glass crystal statuette. Representatives from the group may also be invited to attend a royal garden party. The successful groups can use the KAVS logo on their stationery. Nominations for the Award are promoted by the office of the Lord Lieutenant..

Nominations opened on June 1st for the 2023 Awards and will close on15th September 2023. Please check this page or follow us on Twitter/ Facebook.

Winners are announced on the Monarch's Birthday,14th November each year.
