Where to start if you have a concern

Where to start if you have a concern

1. Speak to your school’s SENCO: Your child’s school should listen to your concerns and be supportive.

We have created a document called Words Have Power (designed with Bury parents and carers) to encourage supportive conversations between schools and parents.

‘Words have Power document really resonated with me....please emphasise and share the message widely’ (Bury Parent)

Questions to support conversations with SENCOs is another document we have created to help you to explore how your child’s needs are being met in school. It links to the different sections of this Graduated Approach Toolkit.

2. Explore the different sections of this toolkit to support your understanding of what is recommended schools put in place to support children and young people with SEND (using the blue boxes below).

3. Further information regarding SEND and special educational provisions can be found on the Independent Provider of Special Education Advice (IPSEA) website by clicking here.

4. Bury Special Educational Needs and Disability Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) website also has lots of information for parents/carers about SEND and SEND support. Their website can be accessed by clicking here. Bury SENDIASS has also created a short SEN Information for Parents/Carers resource, which can be accessed here.
