April 23: Spring Covid-19 vaccination offered to most vulnerable
The new spring Covid-19 vaccine campaign has been launched this week, with the latest jab offered to people most at risk from the virus.
Around 250,000 people in Greater Manchester will be eligible for the vaccination, including those aged 75 and over, those with a weakened immune system and older adult care home residents.
People living in care homes are being prioritised and roving NHS vaccination teams began to visit homes yesterday (Monday April 3). They are expected to have completed most visits over the next two weeks.
Others eligible for the spring vaccination will be able to book in on the National Booking Service or NHS app from Wednesday April 5, for appointments available from Monday April 17.
Text messages and letters reminding eligible people to book will be sent, including via the NHS app to active users.
Those invited should make sure their appointment takes place at least three months since their last dose.
Anyone who believes they should be eligible for a vaccine but does not get invited can check online. Alternatively, they can self-declare on the National Booking Service and then speak to a clinician on site. The last spring vaccination appointments will be offered on 30 June.
There are vaccination sites across Greater Manchester, with the majority of appointments being delivered in communities by pharmacies and GPs.
If you are eligible, you can make a booking by using the NHS App or visiting the NHS website. If you can’t get online, you can call 119 for free.
Some areas also offer convenient walk-in vaccinations. Find a walk-in clinic.
March 23: Silver service- Bury wins national award for its armed forces support
Bury Council has been awarded a Silver award from the Ministry of Defence for actively supporting the armed forces community in its workplace.
The Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) encourages organisations which champion the armed forces and encourage others to follow suit. This includes employing serving and former members of the armed forces community and demonstrating flexibility towards training and mobilisation commitments for Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
Bury Council, which already had Bronze status, had to meet a range of criteria to win Silver, including signing the Armed Forces Covenant which pledges to give serving members, veterans and their families the support they need and deserve.
Cllr Richard Gold, cabinet member for communities and armed forces champion, said: “Bury has a long and proud military heritage, and we have a moral obligation to look after our armed forces, veterans and their families. A key part of that is ensuring that they have opportunities for employment, and time to carry out their reservist duties. I’m proud that we have been recognised by putting these policies in place, and we’re now determined to win the Gold award.”
Bury Council and NHS Bury CCG signed the Armed Forces Covenant last November. This is an important part of their inclusion strategy and wider commitment to supporting all of Bury’s communities
