Buy Your Own Services
While you are paying for your own care, you are free to choose the care services you want. Once we provide financial assistance, we will work with you to decide how best to meet your needs.
What is self-funding?
A self-funder is someone who pays for the full cost of their social care and support. You are a self-funder if either:
You choose to find and pay for your care without involving us
If you have assets and/or saving of more than £23,250
Assets can include, but are not limited to, savings, property and investments such as shares, stocks or bonds.
The first thing we will do is to arrange for an assessment of your care and support needs. If you are eligible for support, we will ask you to complete a financial assessment questionnaire. This will help us work out how much you can afford to pay towards your care.
If you have assets and/or savings between £14,250 and £23,250, you are likely to have to pay for some of your care. The financial assessment will calculate the amount you will need to pay towards the cost of your care.

Assessing your care needs
If you pay for your care and support, you can still ask for an assessment of your care needs to help ensure that you purchase the care that is appropriate for you.
Visit the ‘Getting Started’ section for more information.
How can I contact care providers directly?
If you are sourcing care privately, the Care Quality Commission website can tell you about providers’ standards of quality and safety.
