Create a calm, positive and nurturing classroom environment.

 

Use whole class approaches to teaching emotional regulation strategies, e.g.  Go Noodle.

 

Use emotional validation strategies when upset, angry or distressed, e.g. an Emotion Coaching approach.

 

Discuss and model feelings and emotions often, using a wide vocabulary of feelings and emotions words.

 

Create displays focused on developing emotional vocabulary.

 

Regulation/mindful/sensory 'grab bags' or boxes. Take what you need station where all children can take activities to support their individual SEMH when needed.

 

Morning and afternoon well-being check in slips. Emotion 'cups' put your lollypop stick in the corresponding cup (inside out film emotions).

 

Value/affirmation tokens- kindness/friendship etc

 

Whole class calming sessions-to teach breathing, yoga, meditation, massage etc.

 

Ready, respectful, and safe mantra.

 

Consistent use of language when discussing themes.
