About Us

The Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (ABM) is a voluntary organisation founded in 1979 by mothers already experienced in breastfeeding counselling.

We became a charity in 1980 (registered no 280537). As well as supporting mums and families and offering training, we speak for breastfeeding families at a national advocacy level.

What we do

Counselling:

Trained breastfeeding counsellors run our ABM Breastfeeding Helpline on 0300 330 5453 (9.30am -10.30pm). Our volunteers are happy to talk to parents, friends, families – anyone who has a question or concern about breastfeeding. We’re also partners on the National Breastfeeding Helpline on 0300 100 0212 (9.30am – 9.30pm). Both helplines are open every day of the year.

 Membership:

All our members share an interest in breastfeeding. You don’t have to be a mother or have breastfed to become an ABM member. We’ll SEND you a welcome pack with a full set of our ABM breastfeeding leaflets and a copy of our latest ABM magazine bursting with articles and information. We publish this three times a year.

Training:

Each ABM breastfeeding counsellor is trained to a high standard and can provide up to date, accurate, evidence-based information. She will use empathy and understanding to support parents to reach their own breastfeeding decisions.

Information Library:

Search here for our comprehensive breastfeeding information.

Conference:

Our annual summer conference is great place to meet other breastfeeding enthusiasts. We host knowledgeable speakers and practical workshops. It’s a friendly networking opportunity for our own volunteers and for anyone who’d like to learn more about breastfeeding.
